A 3-eyelet blucher has an air of modern elegance & simplicity. Alden decided to create the the 940C Dutton around the Hampton last. The Hampton last retains a handsome modern shape, but has more room in the ball of the foot vs the Aberdeen last.
The 940C does tend to be a bit of a snug fit for clients with moderate to very high insteps. That's not to say that a change in width wouldn't solve most clients fit, but it does have a bit more of a snug instep than a traditional Hampton oxford shoe.
